A natural resin, also called Rosin, obtained from the distillation of turpentine from pine resins.
Colophony occurs as semitransparent, brittle and easily powdered lumps, coloured from light yellow to yellow-reddish to brown.
It is soluble in turpentine oil, alcohols, ketones, aromatic hydrocarbons, chlorinated solvents and is generally used for the preparation of varnishes and adhesives for various applications.
