Paraffin is composed of a mixture of hydrocarbons with a high molecular weight (22–30 carbon atoms). It is obtained from the distillation of extracts during the production of lubricating oils. It is soluble in non-polar solvents such as aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons.
